The Mango Tree

this is my story about the elephants walking through Mfuwe Lodge at the games reserve park in africa.
The Mango Tree

My name is Wonky Tusk, I'm unsure why
though. I'm the matriarch of my herd. At the moment we have nine elephants in our herd. We live at a place with a fence and it's super big to roam around with other animals and other people. At a certain time of the year, we take our ancient trail to the glorious mango tree! I’m so excited because today is the day we’re going TODAY! If I have been keeping track of the years right, it's 1998 but I may be wrong.

I’m leading the herd, with baby Wellington, along our ancient path that i used to take when I was Wellington’s age! We always take it at this time of year when the mangoes are ripe and taste
delicious!
I know we are almost there, i’m so excited, it's just through these bushes! Wait, what’s that!? It looks like a human's place where they live or whatever, smack, bang on top of OUR path! It's OUR path! I can't believe it! I'm going to lead the herd straight through there and show them who's boss! If they have weapons we will try to use self defence and attack them. Wellington can go in last, along with the other young elephants, just in case they are nasty poachers and all they want are my beautiful tusks. I won't forget the horrible day someone shot a member of our herd. We will always stop and have a moment of silence when we pass by the spot. I will always sacrifice myself for others so I walk in first. I nervously poke my head in, hopoing they won't be poachers setting a trap, and then…

The human's back up and hide from us. They are so kind…sometimes, then I allow the rest of the
Herd to walk in. We walk down the dark and gloomy hallway. I know the whole time we are all keeping an eye on the human's. I’m trying to multitask because the whole time I’m trying to keep an eye on baby Wellington, luckily he stays right by my side. Finally the mango tree! I can see it and I can smell it. We all rush over and start scoffing our trunks and faces. The mangoes taste even better, they just get better every year! I wish every day could be like today that would be amazing! I mean the human's seem nice, super nice, well super, super nice, all they are doing is standing around and holding these square and rectangles in their hand and pointing them at us. I’m not sure why though.

I'm so sad, it's just about time to go home, we have a look around outside and at reception and baby Wellington decides to have a nap, right in the middle of the hall. We wait for a  while and then he gets up, it's time to go home now. I can't wait to come back next year!
